By taking over the 60% of its capital from IDS, Leonardo Finmeccanica obtains total control over Sistemi Dinamici S.p.A. and strengthens its business in the drones’ sector. Sistemi Dinamici is a company founded in 2006 in Pisa; it was born as the result of a joint venture between IDS and AgustaWestland with the aim of developing new technologies in the helicopters’ field. The purpose of the operation is the one of reinforcing Leonardo’s commitment in the unmanned sector through the acquisition of the project of the new drone “Hero SD-150”, a lightweight remotely piloted helicopter. Thanks to this operation, Leonardo further enlarges its portfolio in the unmanned helicopters’ sector that already included the biggest SW-4 Solo. Moreover, Leonardo reinforces its competences as system integrator, including platforms, equipment and sensors.
Mauro Moretti, CEO and General Director of Leonardo, commented on the acquisition: “The whole operation proves the quality of all our investments in the unmanned system sector, a high additional value field in which Leonardo is the European leader. Thanks to a careful investment strategy, the range of our services has been further improving, allowing Leonardo to be even more competitive and ready to take future challenges in the area of advanced technologies”.
“Hero” is a state-of-the-art remotely piloted helicopter (RUAS – Rotorcraft Unmanned Aerial System) which embodies Leonardo’s experience in helicopter design and systems integration. Its design responds to the current and future market requirements for more extensive operational capabilities using remote control systems. Developed for both land and naval operations and characterized by its maximum versatility, “Hero” is the perfect solution in terms of cost/effectiveness for tasks such as monitoring the environmental heritage and critical infrastructures, support rescue-missions and civil protection operations, damage assessment in case of disasters and border surveillance.
One model of “Hero SD-150” has become part of the Italian “Red Cross” – Provincial Committee of Bologna – aimed at being used abroad in international missions during emergency situations, for monitoring coasts and refugee camps and being able to quickly reach disaster-zones in case of needs. The announcement was made in April 2015 on the famous Italian TV show “I Fatti Vostri”.
